Big Bass Fishin

Big Bass Fishin is one of those games I opened expecting to bounce off in ten minutes and ended up playing on the train for a week. The core loop is simple: pick a spot, cast, wait for a bite, then work the reel without snapping the line. It sounds thin written down, but the timing on the reel-in has real texture to it — pull too hard and you lose the fish, go too soft and it slips off the hook.

Controls are all touch and they feel right. You flick to cast, hold and release to set the hook, and drag to steer the fish away from weeds and snags. There's a little tension meter that turns from green to red, and learning to feather it is where the game clicks. Different waters hold different fish, and the game slowly opens up new spots as you get better gear.

What I liked most was the pacing. It never rushes you. You can sit on a quiet lake, listen to the water loop, and lose track of time. It's the kind of game that's calming rather than demanding, which is rare on mobile.
